Demand Side Analytics (“DSA,” “we”) conducts research on behalf of utilities, regulators, and other organizations (“clients”). This policy explains how we handle information about people invited to take part in our studies.

Information we receive from clients

To invite you to a study, a client may provide us with limited information such as your name, email or postal address, and details relevant to the study, such as program participation or account characteristics. We receive only what a study requires, under a written agreement with the client that restricts how we may use it.

Information we collect

  • Your survey responses, which you provide voluntarily.
  • Delivery information for our invitations, such as whether an invitation was delivered or bounced, and unsubscribe requests.
  • Basic technical information when you visit our website or survey, such as browser type, which our systems use to operate securely.

We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing.

How we use information

  • To invite you to and administer the study
  • To send a thank-you incentive, when a study offers one
  • To analyze results and report findings to our client
  • To honor unsubscribe requests and answer your questions

Confidentiality and reporting

Your individual responses are kept confidential. Results are reported to clients in aggregate form, combined with other responses so that individuals cannot be identified, unless a study clearly tells you otherwise before you take part.

How we protect information

  • Access to study data is limited to staff who need it for the study.
  • Data is stored and transferred using encryption and secure systems.
  • Invitations use unique, randomly generated codes rather than personal information in survey links.
  • Service providers we use, such as our email delivery and survey platforms, are bound to protect data and use it only to provide their services to us.

Sharing

We share information only with the client the study is conducted for, as described above, with service providers acting on our behalf (e.g. survey hosting providers, email service providers), or when required by law. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the study and our contractual obligations, then securely delete it.

Your choices

You may decline or stop a survey at any time and unsubscribe from invitations. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to or deletion of your personal information. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
